CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. CERT
training is offered by our Long Beach Fire Department and by Los Angeles
County and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
CERT's 20-hour training programs are
in 7-modules.
1. Disaster Preparedness - kits to
help you survive on your own for 5 to 7 days, until help can be made
available by FEMA, Red Cross, Fire Departments, Police and others.
2. Fire Safety - training with fire
extinguishers, etc. Learn how to use them before you need to
use them.
3. First Aid - mitigating injuries'
consequences.
4. Search and Rescue.
5. Organization Disaster Psychology -
Instant local community command systems.
6. Terrorism - What are our local
issues.
7. Drill - review, scenarios.
The training programs are offered 2
times a quarter and can handle 30 people at a time. More are
offered if a group can guarantee 20 attendees. There is no
charge, but donations are requested at the first session to buy
refreshments, etc.
There is a 2-hour review course
offered in Los Angeles by the County.
