Jackie's letters name Elizabeth Hodgkins as the mother of Isabel, that Isabel who married Charles Floyd and John Davis.

Faxed reply from Town of Camden, ME, dated 21 Dec 1998 to Don Appleby's letter dated 15 Dec 1998 requested copy of birth record of Elizabeth "Lizzie" Marie Sumner, born 3 Aug 1850. Not found but listed the following that seems to be the family based on what "Early Families of Gouldsboro, ME" is said to contain:

Birth Notes:

1850 year of birth is based on age of 84 shown in California Death Index at date of death of 8 Dec 1934.
In searching for Lizzie's birth record in Camden, Maine, a birth record for 8/03/1850 shows a Marrion H.M.E. Sumner, who according to census information was a male.

Reply 21 Dec 1998 to letter to Town Clerk of Camden, Maine found no record of birth of Elizabeth "Lizzie" Marie Sumner. Reply received 10 Jun 1999 from Trenton Town Clerk failed to report any information as to birth of Lizzie Sumner or as to the names of her parents.

Although a letter from Margie Remington Monesmith to Winnie DeCoux Remington said Elizabeth Sumner was the daughter of Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts, it was learned that Senator Sumner had no children. He was married briefly but not until 1866.

There was another Charles Sumner who was a politician who made it to Washington, D.C. about that time:
SUMNER, Charles Allen, a Representative from California; born in Great Barrington, Mass., on August 2, 1835; attended Trinity College, Hartford, Conn.; studied law; was admitted to the bar and engaged in patent practice; moved to California in 1856 and settled in San Francisco; editor of the Herald and Mirror in 1861; during the Civil War was appointed November 26, 1862, to be captain and assistant quartermaster of United States Volunteers, and served until his resignation on March 30, 1864; moved to Virginia City, Nev.; member of the State senate 1865-1868 and served as president pro tempore for one session; returned to San Francisco in 1868 and became editor of the Herald; was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1885); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1884 to the Forty-ninth Congress; resumed the practice of law; died in San Francisco, Calif., January 31, 1903; interment in the George H. However, this Charles Sumner would only have been 15 years of age when Lizzie was born.

The Elizabeth Sumner listed in the AIG and 1850 Maine Census for Oxford Co. was age 76 so was not this person.

Eric Remington's chart shows the place of birth as Winter Harbor, Maine.

Reply Letter to Town Clerk of Winter Harbor referred to Town Clerk of Gouldsboro because Winter Harbor was not incorporated until after the time when Lizzie was born.

Reply Letter to Town Clerk of Gouldsboro (latitude 442537N, longitude 0680232W) that they could find no mention of her birth. They did find the record of her marriage. There was a John Sumner who was a Selectman and then the Town Clerk in the period 1824 - 39. No other mention of the family name Sumner appeared.

The book, "Early families of Gouldsboro, Maine" by Muriel Sampson Johnson has Lizzie and her parents and siblings.

Lizzie was listed as age 29 in the 1880 census and age 19 in the 1870 census, per Lois Weaver in her email of 23 May 2003.
