Telephone conversation with Jackie on 6/13/01 she gave me the given names of her maternal grandmother. Born 27 Jan 1855, in Ohio. Died 1 Apr 1931, in Hynes (North Long Beach, California). Jackie has her death certificate. Her father was Henry Thornton. She lived in Dover, Ohio. They Alice Jane and Mary settled in Coronado when they came to California Mary worked in a dry goods store. Mary's brother Laurel George Froman was in the Navy when they came to California. Mary was about 5 when her father died. Alice Jane did domestic work. Lived with Jackie's folks in North Long Beach. Moved to San Gabriel when Jackie was 14-years old (about 1944-5). Went to El Monte High School. She went to Lindberg Jr. High School about 3-miles from home in N. Long Beach. At some point Jack went to New Mexico to work at a silver mine. Clarence and Clara went there too. Maybe near Roswell. Has a deed to that mine. John Davis and Grama Davis visited them once in San Gabriel.
