  General Notes:

Dene Mandel reported his mother, Isabel Remington Mandel as saying, "Uncle William was a furniture maker. He and his dad, Grampa Hodgkins started a furniture factory, mostly chairs, on Euclid Avenue near the center of town. Right by the railroad tracks. Later he and his dad moved the furniture factory to Inglewood." William was also known as Will and "WW". However, a newspaper article reports his middle name as Witt.

  Birth Notes:

The 1900 Census for Brewer City, Penobscot, Maine shows his age as 14, his month and year of birth as Sep 1886 and State of birth as Maine. However, the crypt at Bellevue Mausoleum in Ontario, California lists William W. Hodgkins 1882 - 1939.

The California Death Index showed him as having died at age 56, which corroborates birth year as 1882 with that of the grave stone.

However, the Hodgkins Genealogy shows his date of birth as 30 Sep 1880, as does Erik Remington's information..

And his daughter, Barbara, reported his date of birth as 30 Sep 1883.

As to text about William W. Hodgkins in Eben's Genealogy, Barbara Goon added notations:
" A slight exaggeration here and there, but mainly accurate -- Forgive my boasting - We were all very proud of my dad --"

  Death Notes:

He was almost cured of TB when he died of cancer.

The California Death Index lists a William W Hodgkins with spouse initials OL who died at age 56 in Los Angeles County on 8 Mar 1939. It is not certain that this is the same William Hodgkins, especially since there would be a 4-year age discrepancy.

Died at the Huntington Memorial hospital, Pasadena, while a resident of Monrovia, California.

William was single. His father and mother were reported as having been born in Maine. His occupation at the time of the census was Drug Clerk and he had missed no months of employment. He could read, write and speak English. Also in the household were his niece, Mildred, age 9, and nephews, Clarence, Leon G, and Irving L, ages 5, 3, 1 and 1, respectively.

"He was diagnosed with TB in 1931 and lived in a sanitarium in Duarte for two years, until I graduated from high school (1933).... He was almost cured of TB when he died of cancer."

14. Elected: not Mayor of Inglewood: Inglewood, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. ⁵ This was reported in his obituary but as a fact is doubtful according to his daughter, Barbara. Don Appleby checked with the Inglewood Public Library and was advised that there was no mayor by the name of William Hodgkins. They did however find an article indicating he had been President of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of many civic and social organizations.

Will married Olive Lousie Draper-[1342] [MRIN: 434], daughter of James Birney Draper-[1395] and Louisa Mutrie-[1396], on 29 Nov 1913.^{1 2 3} (Olive Lousie Draper-[1342] was born on 21 Jul 1887 in Drayton, Ontario, Canada,^{3 13 16} died on 7 Feb 1948 in , Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. ^{16 23 24 25} and was buried in 1948 in Ontario, San Bernardino, California, U.S.A. ^{16 23}.)
