Dene recalled a story that during the flu epidemic of 1918, which killed 17M world-wide, the whole family was too sick to get out of bed. June was a tiny baby and no one in the family could care for her. So the doctor took her home with him. Aunt Buella [Beulah] , who was living in Sacramento at the time, and a practicing nurse, came down to care for the family. But was herself stricken.
Death Notes:
The following information was reported in the Long Beach Press Telegram, on Tuesday, March 25, 1941. She died at age 22 in a Lakewood road crash. The auto in which she was a passenger went out of control and crashed into the rear end of a truck near Carson Avenue and Lakewood Boulevard. The car was being driven by F. Edward Castleman, 34, of 108 Roswell Avenue, Long Beach. The truck driver was King D. Brown, 38, of 945 Flora Vista Avenue, Bellflower. Also a victim of the crash was her husband, Harold Appleby, 30, employed at the Artesia Pharmacy.
On Friday, March 28, 1941, the Long Beach Press Telegram printed the funeral notice including that the funeral was held at Angeles Abbey Mausoleum, Compton, with Arnold Funeral Home, Artesia, in charge.

Harold's and June's remains are in crypt #17 in Corridor 3 of Building F(lowers) at Angeles Abbey Mausoleum in Compton.
