Harry John APPLEBY was known as John Appleby. According to the Apprenticeship Indenture for his son, Harry, that document signed by both father and son, the father signed as Harry John Appleby and the son as Harry Appleby. The father is described as a shoemaker.

John Appleby was the son of John Appleby and Mary Ann Curtis according to his birth certificate in possession of Don E. Appleby, date of birth as 21 Apr 1855.

The 1881 census shows John Appleby was born in Layer de la Hay and was age 26.

Name verification from Apprenticeship Indenture: This Indenture verifies that John APPLEBY also used the name of Harry John APPLEBY (unless Harry started signing his name where his father was supposed to sign) and that Harry John APPLEBY was the father of Harry APPLEBY.
